‘Hewn’ is a large format work created with 2 lino blocks printed side by side. It is inspired by the alpine environment at the summit of kunanyi / Mt Wellington where I live and work. With ‘Hewn’, I was fascinated by the shapes of the rocks which look as if they’ve been cut. I love the deep shadows in the crevices between the rocks and the shadows they cast onto others around them. The composition of this piece was all about accentuating the lines of the shadows and the contrast between the bright sunlight and deep shadow.

This linocut is printed with oil based ink on Stonehenge paper. I have printed only a small edition of 10 prints. Each is hand painted individually with watercolour. The image size (excluding signature and title) is approximately 45cm h x 60 cm w with the paper measuring 56cm x 76cm.
