’Stepping Stones’ is a large format work created with 2 lino blocks printed end to end. It is inspired by the alpine environment at the summit of kunanyi / Mt Wellington where I live and work. I often use portrait orientation when creating landscapes, as I feel like they can draw you in to the space. Beginning at the bottom with the ground you’re standing on and working up towards the skyline in the distance, ‘Stepping Stones’ focuses on the interplay of light and shadow on rocks and the plant life that grows between them. I wanted to recreate the feeling of hopping from rock to rock, following a trail across an alpine wetland.
This linocut is printed with oil based ink on oversized Stonehenge paper to allow for the extra height. I have printed only a small edition of 10 prints. Each is hand painted individually with watercolour. The image size (excluding signature and title) is approximately 30cm w x 80cm h with at least a 5 cm boarder on all sides.
