Fagus 1

A$450.00

Nothofagus Gunnii, affectionately known as the Fagus, is a small Tasmanian native tree endemic to our highland slopes. It is Australia’s only cold climate deciduous tree. In late April and early May, its colours turn and the spectacle is known as the ‘turning of the Fagus’, lighting up the alpine slopes with glowing yellow, orange and red. The leaves are deeply creased with a ‘zig zag’ look and are born on wandering branches, giving rise to the Fagus’s nickname ‘Tanglefoot’. I have added the Fagus to my botanical series with a number of works so as to explore the many qualities that I love about this special plant.

I hand carve the lino, and print with oil based printing ink onto Stonehenge paper. For this design, I've chosen the fawn coloured Stonehenge which gives the piece a warmth and depth while allowing the flowers to glow. Prints are then hand painted with watercolour, each piece individually coloured.

The image size measures 30cm high (12") x 20 cm wide (approx 8 1/4") with the paper larger as shown. Each artwork is signed and numbered with the edition limited to 10. Your artwork will be securely shipped in a mailing tube. You have the option to add insurance at the checkout.
