I live in the leafy area of Fern Tree, and this little piece an ode to the sensory experience of this special place. In “Fern Tree’, I have tried to capture the feeling of walking on the lower slopes of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, among the tree ferns where the sunlight filters through the canopy and spills onto the crush of undergrowth. I love the details in the shadows and the complex lines of crossing trees and branches.
I hand carve the lino block, and print using oil based printing ink onto Stonehenge printmakers paper. I then hand paint each print individually with artist quality watercolour. Prints are signed and numbered, with this being a small edition of 15. The print itself is 25cm x 25cm (almost 10" x 10") with the paper generously sized around it, as pictured. The paper has a deckled/torn edge.
