Tasmanian Waratah 2
This original hand painted linocut shows off one of my favourite flowers, the Tasmanian Waratah. Tasmanian Waratahs grow wild on the slopes of kunanyi/Mt Wellington where I live in Southern Tasmania. They flower in late spring and their intense red colour seems to glow on the bush. This linocut is part of an ongoing series of mountain flowers.
I hand carve the lino, and print with oil based printing ink onto Stonehenge paper. For this series, I've chosen the deep kraft-coloured Stonehenge which gives the piece a warmth and depth. Colour and highlights are added with watercolour, each piece individually hand painted.
The image size measures 30cm high (12") x 20 cm wide (approx 8 1/4") with the paper larger as shown. Each artwork is signed and numbered with the edition limited to 25. This piece is shipped flat, wrapped in cello and mounted on foam core.
